Benefits of Desert Landscaping

Those who live in areas that do not receive a great deal of rainfall may feel somewhat cheated by their water-scarce environs when they begin to consider landscaping. The lush green lawns and other water-intensive aspects of landscaping in other areas are ill suited for desert regions.

Desert dwellers should not, however, feel cheated at all. Desert landscaping can be amazingly attractive. A great desert landscaping will result in a look that captures the natural beauty of the expansive desert while at the same time turning a blind eye to some of its less attractive elements.

Greens and blues may be replaced with oranges and reds, but desert landscaping is still a wondrous and beautiful proposition. In addition to the exceptional aesthetic value offered by a desert look, desert landscaping also offers additional advantages to practitioners.

Initially, a desert look can produce some fairly significant cost savings. Water is expensive when used in substantial quantities, and trying to maintain a more traditional yard in an area that is not served with a great deal of rainfall can become quite expensive. By choosing plants and elements accustomed to a low-moisture environment, one can benefit financially. Desert landscaping is cost-effective.

Desert landscaping also allows one to make use of plants that will perform to their utmost in the environment. It is possible to create and maintain a lush green lawn in the middle of the desert through frequent watering. However, no matter what one does in order to foster its growth, it will never be as strong and resilient as a bluegrass lawn in a temperate region. It’s a fact that plants tend to perform to their utmost in their indigenous surroundings. Desert landscaping takes advantage of that natural truth by using plants that thrive in dryer conditions.

Desert soils tend to be of a higher alkaline level than soils found elsewhere. As a result, many plants common to other areas require a great deal of fertilization to successful grow in a desert environment. By concentrating on the use of indigenous plants that are accustomed and evolved to function well in the high alkaline soil of the desert, desert landscaping provides a chance to populate yard space with healthier and stronger plants than one would otherwise experience.

Desert landscaping can be just as attractive as the forms of landscaping practiced in “wetter” regions. By relying those plants that function well in the desert, one can create a space filled with strong, healthy life while saving money at the same time.
